DREAM 02 ❀ IF EVERYTHING IS WHAT IT IS--
effects: A cheerful feeling, but a lingering sense of loneliness
There's a girl of six or seven years sitting by the lake. She giggles and flops her feet into the water (never mind that her shoes and stockings are now drenched.
She's singing cheerfully... peacefully. But she keeps looking over her shoulder.
Something that should be there... isn't.
But she's waiting for him. He wouldn't leave her alone.
Then minutes turn to hours, but no one shows. It's getting colder, and the light is quickly fading.
Had she been forgotten? Where was her brother?
Picking herself up she crawls across the grass, calling his name -- Oz? Oz!!
But no one answers. No one can answer. Because her brother is gone now. She forgot. She thought her days would always remain as peaceful and cheerful as the ones before.
It was then... that she realized she was wrong.
[Ada wakes up slowly, to tears on her cheeks and a scary feeling in her chest. Every time she had spoken to her brother, it always seemed to be something... well... bad. And he had been acting differently... worrying about things. Things that frightened her. Things out of her grasp. And again she had this feeling that -- just like at that time... there was nothing she could do. She could not reach him.]

Ada Vessalius. Your...dream was broadcast to everyone.
[See, she's helping.]
no subject
Ah... thank you... for telling me Miss Vanessa.
[She's really grateful.]
no subject
[She sighs, cutting herself off from finishing her sentence.]
There's no reason to let yourself continue to be so upset when he's just down the hall.
no subject
But... things were normal like this just before he disappeared then, too.
[She knows its a strange thing to hold on to, but... she does. It frightens her.]
no subject
[Which is her way of sympathizing, as cruel as it still sounds.]
no subject
Still...
[She has mixed feelings on it. Even if he disappeared from here it didn't mean she wouldn't see him again, or that anything bad would happen to him bad home but... the fear was still there.]

That's not necessary! Ah... I think I'll go see my brother.
But... thank you.
[It's nice. Conversations that don't end up... well... horridly.]
no subject
...Mmhm. [She hums in acknowledgement, just before leaning over to turn the feed off before things really do go badly.]
video;
Oh no, Ada... are you alright?
video;
Oh no! I... I'm okay. It's just... It happened a long time ago...
video;
I- it did? I'm so sorry...
Is there anything I can do to help you?
video;
My brother disappeared once, when I was little. I guess it still bothers me sometimes...
B-but I don't want to be a bother...
video;
[ fkubadg Her frown deepens. ] You're not a bother at all, Ada! I want to help you! Please, let me if I can do anything for you.
video;
[But she smiles softly. Because... she's stronger now, right? There's hope.]
video;
Alright, then I'll help! [ Her fists curl up and WHOA UP IN FRONT OF THE VID SHE GOES. ] I want to help protect your brother with you!
[Video]
[His voice is quite soft, sweet, caring. It's easy to make it so.]
Is there anything I might do to comfort, my love?
[Video]
I... you don't have to do that. I mean...
[She sighs.]
It was so long ago. I thought I was over that fear...
Re: [Video]
[He speaks softly, and there's almost an honest ring to it, now.]
It's not a nice thing; when no one else sees, we can just push those things away again, but with how things are here...
[Replying to her was not a good idea. He's realizing it belatedly. But he'd felt he needed to, in order to keep up the pretense. Why though? What good did it do now?
He shoves the question away.]
You don't ever have to feel alone, not now.
Re: [Video]
You're right... And... I'm very grateful.
[There are many people that she has to be grateful for. So that she'll never be alone. And yet... he is her one and only brother...]
Thank you. I will... remind myself that next time.
[Subconsciously she knows there will be a next time.]
Re: [Video]
[He pauses, then speaks softly, leaning in a little as if telling a secret.]
I am always here for you. Any time of day or night that you need me... no matter how inappropriate it might seem, all I want is to be by your side when you need someone.
[He's almost proud of himself for the straight face with which he says the words.]
Re: [Video]
If you're sure you don't mind...
Re: [Video]
[It's so easy to sound intense about it.]
Re: [Video]
[It is so easy to allow herself to be taken in by his intensity; to give in.]
Re: [Video]
[This is important. This is very important. She has to trust him more than anyone.]
Re: [Video]
[Somehow she does.]
Thank you. I'm truly very lucky.
[She believes this.]
Re: [Video]
[Vincent offers her a smile, and then goes as far as to blow a kiss at the screen.]
Now, you should try to go back to sleep, and rest well, my dear.
Re: [Video]
[That makes her smile. A lot.]
Good night.

voice;
Ada...are you okay? It was just a dream.
[Right?]
voice;
[She wishes it was.]
I'm alright. Thank you... for worrying about me.
It's silly really...
[Easier to call it that then admit it still bothers her. She doesn't want to trouble others.]
voice;
Nothing's silly when it bothers you like that.
voice;
[Its different. Friends were usually still reserved. Back home anyway. At least about certain things. There were a lot of things that she wouldn't have imagined sharing. But... here... she's starting to learn that it's not such a bad thing.]
voice;
I'm...glad you think so. I just don't like to see anyone upset, especially someone I'm close to.
